NFL Season 2007
It does not seem possible the NFL season is upon us. It seems like the draft was just here! After the excitement with the Saints last year and the pomp and circumstance around their performance, what does the NFL have up their sleeve for this year?
The really great thing about Football is the parody. Trust me, I am a Cleveland Browns fan and I have to count on parody! A team can go from being absolutely miserable one year to making the playoffs the following year. You do not even have to have a great draft to make a charge during a given season.
Then there are those teams that always seem to be at the top of their game. Whether it is good ownership, good coaching or some magical unforeseen element, they just always seem to succeed. In our division that would be the Pittsburgh Steelers. You can love them or hate them, but it is not going to make a difference because they are going to most likely beat your brains in!
I like watching the teams people love to hate. Remember the 49er with Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Man, I hated those guys. They were really good, but they were fun to hate! The Cowboys fall into that category and the Giants at times. The AFC does not seem to have many of those kinds of teams with the exception of the afformentioned Steelers.
Then there are the teams that by the grace of GOD you hope something good happens for them. How does one come to root AGAINST the Lions, Bengals,Browns etc. I like to compare it to the neighborhood bully beating up on the 40 pound kid around the corner.
Football is about camaraderie. Between the members of the team, between the fans and between the team and the fans. I have never met most of these guys and would not really care to, but on Sunday I am one of them. My wife thinks it is hilarious when I say "WE" had a good game or "WE" were right there. That is really the way I feel though. For that brief 3 hour period I am one of them. I am engulfed in the drama that is the NFL.
Bring on the Season for me and all of my fellow wannabes! Right now everybody is 0 - 0, so anything can happen ( I had to get at least a couple of cheesy cliches in there or would not have been able to live with myself!)
Have a great season!
