Most people realize the importance of regularly checking their financial balance sheet, whether it’s in their business or personal life, but how many of us maintain and check our energy balance sheet? I suggest it may be at least as valuable as the financial one.
Here’s how to do it:
Observe and record for at least one week what drains your energy and what adds to your energy and well-being. Energy drainers are often those stress-producing attitudes and reactions to daily occurrences, while energy boosters are the energy-accumulating attitudes and responses.
Notice that you’re looking more at your reaction and responses to situations rather than the situations themselves, although you may find certain patterns and situation/reaction combos where a certain situation invariably and consistently leads to a reaction or response.
For example, sustained loud noise may consistently lead to an outburst of anger, while walking around in nature may consistently lead to a sense of peace and well-being.
As you pinpoint each deficit go to your heart center and ask how to turn that deficit into an asset. Commit to taking action on at least one deficit each week. Before you know it, you’ll experience a rejuvenation of energy that you can then apply to your life — your life on purpose.

If you have recently lost health insurance coverage through your employer from voluntarily or invulnerably termination of employment (excluding reasons of gross misconduct), you and your dependents may be eligible to continue your coverage under COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). Understanding the basics of how COBRA works and what your options are, can help you make better choices with less stress.
Contrary to popular belief, COBRA is not a separate insurance company or policy provided by the government. It is a ruling by our government allowing you or your dependents to purchase the same health insurance policy you have been receiving back from your company.
If your employer has more than 20 full-time employees, they are required to notify you and your dependents within 14 days from the date of your termination of your rights under COBRA.
You then have 60 days to notify your employer if you wish to continue your coverage. After you notify your employer, you then have another 45 day grace period to pay your premiums.
Many people make the mistake of either signing up right away out of fear of not having insurance or looking at the cost and immediately waiving coverage. The cost can be intimidating, as the rates are expensive, up to 102% of the actual cost that the employer paid for your coverage.
Before you make any hasty decisions, take into consideration the following two questions. Do you think you will be covered under another policy within 60 days? Or, are you or a covered dependent currently being treated for a medical condition?
If you think you will have coverage within 60 days, save yourself some money and do not immediately sign up for COBRA. However, do not waive your option. Remember you have 60 days to decide; you do not have to decide immediately. If during this time, all you have is a forty dollar claim, the forty dollars may be a whole lot cheaper than the price of the full premium. During these 60 days, if you were hospitalized for major surgery, you would still be able to immediately elect back your coverage to the day you lost it. If you were too hasty and waived your option, you might still be able revoke your waiver, but your insurance might only be reinstated from the date you revoked it, and not to the date you lost coverage. You have nothing to lose by waiting the 60 days to decide.
If you are unsure if you will have coverage in 60 days, yet you have no ongoing medical or pre-existing conditions, you can still hold out on electing COBRA, in the chance that a new policy soon becomes available. (There are many individual policies on the market that may prove to be a more affordable alternative if you are in good health). If after 60 days you still have not found coverage, go ahead and elect COBRA, keeping in mind that you have yet another 45 day grace period to pay your premiums. If you become covered under another plan within the next 45 days, just notify the COBRA administrator that you have found other coverage, and cancel your election. You will have saved yourself a ton of money. If a medical emergency comes up in that 45 day grace period, just pay your premium in full, and you coverage will be reinstated to the date that you lost it.
Additionally, if you or a covered dependent are currently being treated for a medical condition, you might be subject to a pre-existing condition clause under a new policy. However, under the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), if you do not have a lapse in coverage for more than 63 days and your new plan covers your condition, the new policy will have to give you credit for each month you were previously covered under your old policy towards their exclusion period. This could reduce or eliminate the exclusion period entirely.
For example, say you are diabetic and have been covered under your previous policy for 12 months. You terminate your employment and decide not to immediately elect COBRA. You then become eligible to participate in a new plan that covers diabetes; however the new plan has a pre-existing condition clause that states that you must wait 12 months before you can make a claim for this condition. All you have to do is present the new plan administrator with the HIPAA certificate, which you will have received from your former employer showing that you have been covered for this condition for 12 months. If you have not had a break in coverage of more than 63 days, the new insurance company will have to waive the entire 12 month pre-existing period and your claims for this condition will be covered.
If only one member of your family has a medical condition and you must opt for COBRA for that member, keep in mind that you do not have to elect COBRA for the entire family. Sometimes it is cheaper to elect COBRA for one member and find an individual policy for the remaining members.
Being without employment or starting a new job is a stressful period. Understanding your options can help take the load off.
For more information on COBRA and HIPAA, check out the U.S. Department of Labors web site at http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/index.htm

There are two kinds of stress the “good” stress and the “bad” stress and both of these are the best for us when they are in a balanced state.
Good Stress: This is when you have exciting feelings being involved with an activity or sport, this can range from a carnival ride to any kind of participation and/or watching a favorite sport, to watching a movie or TV program with action and/or emotion. These are all forms of stress, however, healthy ones. We seek out and enjoy these activities and many times these are forms of enjoyment that diminish the stressful kind of stress.
Long term emotional strain, or what we could call Bad Stress is what wears on our bodies, our minds and our souls, this is the one that needs to be balanced and we need to create a program to get it under control so we don’t manifest dis-ease in our beings. There are many ways we can do that, here are some suggestions.
Laughter releases endorphins; which reduces stress and also dis-ease. Laughter also decreases cortisol and other stress hormones; it is also the best bad mood buster. It may be hard at first to just laugh, but when you remember to do it and you see how good it makes you feel, you will practice it on a daily, minute to minute basis.
Did you know that stressful and negative outlook can harm your brain, take for instance the war vets, being in prolonged emotional distress which can lead to memory problems, well it has been proven that emotional distress caused by stress and worry can increase your risk of memory impairment by as much as 40 percent. Even the fact of having thoughts on a regular basis (and/or consistently) that things will not turn out well is included in this statistic. The practice of positive thoughts is truly a statement for your health
Also when certain crystals are carried with you on a regular basis they can work to diminish the affects of stress and stressful situations. One of the best crystals for this is Kunzite, be sure to carry this crystal with you always and from time to time during the day hold it and rub it from time to time. Kunzite is also good have around you when there is seems to be negative energies around, like an argument, death or a serious illness. It is considered the feel good stone; it is good for the heart and helps remove blockages in energy fields that can cause dis-ease. It eases stress and supports the nervous system.
Thought for the Day: “You’ve got a lot of choices. If getting out of bed in the morning is a chore and you’re not smiling on a regular basis, try another choice.”

Money or the lack of it, can cause many people a great deal of stress. People often play mind games with themselves by worrying about certain situations. How will I be able to pay if my car breaks down? How will I cope if I lose my job? In this article, I give money management advice to help people to de-stress about their financial position and future.
Worrying about money is especially true for people who are self-employed. They worry about what might happen if business becomes slow and fear that they will not be able to their mortgage etc. Most businesses go through peaks and troughs and it is of course during the lean times when people start to stress. Even though the peaks are possibly just around the corner it becomes very hard to positive.
In this situation I would advise people who are self-employed to build up a financial safety net. This money can be saved when they are having a good period and can then be spent when things are not going so well. How will I pay for the mortgage if business falls? Answer, by the money you have saved up, so calm down, you will be fine.
The periods when business is slow can be used to re-charge the batteries and can also be used to think up fresh ideas, of the direction you want the business to go in.
For all people it is important to know how much money is likely to be coming in per month and how much money is likely to be going out. In business this is not all that easy to do, however in family life it should not be too difficult to predict.
If the amount that is seemingly going out is more than what is likely to be coming in, we then need to look at what we are spending. This next idea might seem a little sad but can actually be quite fun. I would advise people to keep a record during one month, of everything they spend. It is not as hard as it may sound and will give you an insight on how much money you actually waste.
For example, how many people are members of a gym, but never actually go there? How much money do you spend on take-away food per month? Do you always need to use the car, is it not possible to walk a little more often, therefore saving on petrol costs? How much money do you spend on cigarettes? Do you really need the latest flat screen television?
During the good times we can afford to waste money, however if you are worrying about money, it is time to tighten your belt.
I myself try to save a certain amount of money per month and invest it in a unit trust. Over time the fund value builds up and if I ever need a lump sum for example, car repairs, I just cash in some of the units. I also allow myself to take out a certain amount of money at the start of each year. This helps me to pay for my car insurance, road tax and to book a family holiday. This has been working well for me for the last five years and is something I plan to continue.
It is always worth planning for the future in this way, not just to cover you if your car breaks down but also for many other reasons. You may want to build up a little nest egg to:
pay for your daughters potential wedding
buy the car of your dreams
have the holiday of a lifetime
buy a house
re-locate abroad
buy a business
for your retirement
help fund your childrens university fees
I am now aware of how much money I am likely to spend per month. I like to have treats and waste money as much as the next man. I am more than happy when money is tight to give up these treats and see it as a battle of wills.
I hope you have found this article interesting and of use.

Life is Change. Growth is Optional. Choose Wisely
I recently saw these words on the bumper of the car in front of me in traffic. Every now and then, wisdom seems to jump out at you from the most unextected places.
Life is change
Everything must change - George Benson
All of life is about change. Yet we act so surprised when change comes our way. Wether its change that we seek out or change that seeks us out, life is full of change.
Growth is optional
Ch-ch-ch-changes, tryin to face the strain. - David Bowie
While change is inevitable, growth and adapting to change is not.
Its a decision and a choice.
Ive worked with people who had change thrust at them years ago and they had not grown a bit since then. The changes might as well have occured just hte day before. On the other hand, Ive worked with people who had change thrust at them and not chose to grow and adapt, they even found ways to make it work for them.
Choose wisely
You have chosen wisely. from the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
There is a wonderflu scene toward the end of the last Indiana Jones movie. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones must pick the correct goblet from dozens, under the wathcful eye of the knight hwo has protected it for hundresnm of years. After carefully choosing and drinking of the right cup, the knight turns to Jones and says you have chosen wisely.

I’d like to thank Coach Chris Barrow for creating a new GAP for me when he shared that besides having a very successful coaching practice that generates over a million dollar per year, he also makes it a point to take 6 weeks of time away from the business, so that he can come back from these breaks more rested and rejuvenated.
While I have reached the 6 weeks of time off mark yet, I have scheduled into my year 4 weeks for rest and rejuvenation and I must admit while it’s sometime challenging to leave something I love so much, my family supports me by making sure I stay true to my word, and so do my clients by understanding and allowing me to slip away.
In fact, this next week I will be staying in one of my client’s condominiums in Charleston SC for several days, something my entire family is looking forward to. How’s that for support! On the way, we will be stopping over in Columbia SC for a “Sunday On Purpose”, so if you happen to be in the area drop in to the Unity Center of Columbia. I’d love to meet you.
I’m not promising that there will be an ezine issue next week, but who knows. It’s often during my times of R&R that my creative juices get to flowing the most.
By the way, when was the last time you took some time off to rest and rejuvenate yourself? Are you past due? If so, what are you going to do about it? And that’s the last coaching I’ll be giving for at least a week.
That’s it from Flat Rock NC where it’s another beautiful day in Paradise.

Sometimes stress strikes when you least expect it. John Torcelli, a veteran of the Gulf War, found himself stressed out on his wedding day.
John could hardly wait to get married. He was in love with a beautiful woman.
Professionally, he was all set. John enjoyed working as an electronics engineer for well-known corporation. Getting married was icing on the cake. Life couldnt be better.
John had served in military for seven years. He was glad the Gulf War was behind him. Or was it?
On his wedding day, Johns brother would be his Best Man. They planned to drive to the church together. However, something unusual happened. When Johns brother pulled up in his yellow Honda, the muffler backfired. John dove into the bushes.
Johns thoughts flashed back to the Gulf War. Emotionally, he was back on the battlefield. Only John wasnt wearing camoflague gear. He wore a black tuxedo, and this was his wedding day. The loud noise triggered Johns fight or flight response.
Evidently, diving into the bushes was a stress reaction.
Given Johns background and experience, his response is understandable. Some researchers call this Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PSD. It is something that can be overcome by releasing painful memories, and letting go of the past. To recover, PSD sufferers must also learn to think and respond differently. It is also healthy for them to cultivate a calm and relaxed manner.
You dont have to be a military veteran to experience a physical response to stress. Doctors and researchers used to think that all stress was imaginary, or in the head. Now researchers know that stress occurs in the body as well.
When we encounter stress, our body reacts by producing adrenaline and cortisol. These powerful hormones are good for our body. Cortisol improves our memory. Adrenaline gives us energy and strengthens our immune system. In prehistoric times,
adrenaline helped people survive by giving them a burst of energy to run away faster or fight harder. This is what is commonly known as the “fight or flight” response.
Stress becomes harmful when it builds up. That is why we must find ways to get rid of stress. Relaxation and excercise helps us reduce stress.
Can stress actually harm the body? Yes. When stress has no place to go, the hormones build up in our body and become toxic. When cortisone builds up it causes brain cells to shrink. We become jittery, anxious and forgetful. Unused adrenaline makes us depressed and lethargic. Left untreated, stress makes us vulnerable to illness, disease and mental breakdown.
The healthy way to deal with stress is to use up the adrenaline that your body produces. The best way to do this is by relaxation and exercise.
For deep relaxation that reduces stress, try Dr. Leonard Coldwells U-Cure Power Break System. It is a series of progressive relaxation cds that reconditions the mind to fight

Traffic jams. Toddler tantrums. Deadlines at work. Money troubles. Too much work. Not enough sleep. No time to eat right or even to think.
Does this sound familiar? Stress is all around us. Its an inevitable and normal part of our daily lives. But over time, its effects can be quite taxing. Stress becomes a problem when you feel overwhelmed by its challenges. And though it may be difficult to define, that doesnt mean its all in your head. Researchers have found that there are significant biological changes that take place in the body in times of stress. And extended periods of stress can cause destructive changes in the body such as depression and a suppressed immune system, which can lead to heart disease, cancer, and stroke. So if you are feeling stressed out, its time to get some relief. Learn about stress: how to identify it, and how to find relief.
Why Do We Get Stressed?
Stress is a normal physical reaction to an internal or external pressure that is placed on your system. People react to most stressful situations with the fight or flight response. The body is flooded with stress hormones, making the heart pump faster, the breathing rate increase, and the muscles tense up. This is the bodys way of gearing up for imminent physical activity. For instance, if you are in a minor car accident, your may feel a surge of energy that allows you to escape the car and help others out as well. However, sometimes the stress is emotional rather than physical and the body is not allowed to release the physical tension created by stress hormones. If youre stuck in a traffic jam and late for a meeting, there is little that you can safely do to release the buildup of stress hormones in your body. Over time, stress can lead to back pain, headaches, raised blood pressure, indigestion, sweating, palpitations, irritability, and anxiety. It can also contribute to the development of such diseases as cold sores, ulcers, and heart disease.
What Causes Our Stress?
There are two types of stressors that may be causing you grief. External stressors such as traffic jams, a death in the family, or a financial hardship, are often out of our direct control. Internal stressors, on the other hand, develop through our own personality traits and emotions. It is our ability to handle these internal and external stressors that determines the amount of stress we feel we have. Chemical substances such as alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, sugar, additives, drugs, and environmental toxins, deplete the body of energy and are further sources of stress.
How Can We Prevent Stress?
Stress is an inevitable and normal part of life. So there is no way to prevent it completely. However, there are various stress management techniques that can reduce the effects that stress takes on your life. The most important thing you can do to prevent stress from negatively affecting you is to learn how to recognize stress and the triggers that set you off. Also, avoiding substances such as alcohol, drugs, and nicotine will help the body remain better prepared to handle stress.
Am I Stressed Out?
Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Are you a “control freak,” insisting that everything be done your way?
2. Do you have difficulty sleeping at night, because you are going over the events of the day, or worrying about what will happen tomorrow?
3. Do you have a hard time showing your emotions?
4. Do you feel overwhelmed by the number of tasks that you need to accomplish on a daily basis?
Being able to identify your personal physical and psychological responses to stress is critical to reducing its negative effects on your life. If you try to deny the existence of stress, or tough it out in hopes that it will go away, you will be more likely to intensify the effects of stress rather than relieve them.
The physical symptoms of stress include dry mouth and throat; tight muscles in the neck, shoulders, and back; chronic neck and back problems; headaches; indigestion; tremors; muscle tics; insomnia; and fatigue. Emotional symptoms include difficulty in concentrating, feeling tense, irritability, impulsive behavior, difficulty in making a decision, poor judgment, difficulty relating to–and mistrusting–people, negative thinking, brooding, worrying, depression, anxiety, or feelings of worthless.
Tobacco, alcohol, and drug use can also be signs of stress.
Stress Relief
Now that you can recognize the triggers that are making you stressed, you will be better prepared for dealing with these situations. Try these techniques for relieving stress before it becomes a problem.
Get Physical: Physical exercise, whether its yoga, football, walking, or dance therapy, can help to relive the buildup of stress hormones in the body and promote a general relaxation of the nervous system.
Its All In Your Mind: Use mental exercises such as meditation, guided imagery, art, and playing music, as a useful way to reduce stress and promote relaxation in your life.
Get Connected: Sometimes, all it takes to relieve stress in your life is to talk about the stressor with a close friend or family member. Pet therapy has also been reported to relieve stress.
Eat Up and Eat Well: Stress suppresses the immune system and can cause or aggravate such conditions as heart disease and ulcers. Dietary changes, such as reducing coffee and other caffeinated beverages can reduce the jitteriness, restlessness, anxiety, and insomnia that might magnify the effects of stress.
Also whole grains promote production of the brain neurotransmitter serotonin for a greater sense of well being.

Stress is one of the most common threats to our health. Several studies have shown that stress leads to heart related health problems more than we expect. Some people can shake off stress just like this, but most of us can’t. Our body’s response to stress is destructive and the effects can be felt and seen. The immediate response may be of internal nature. An example would be an increased level of our heart rate. An external sign of stress could be cold sweat and increased color in our faces.
Most people affected by stress do not know that the stress response of the body is meant to protect and support us. This process is often referred to as the “fight or flight response.” An increased heart rate is preparing the body to respond to a threat. Our ancestors responded to stressful events already in this fashion. Thousands of years later today, when we face a situation that is full of stress (challenge, threat), our body automatically goes into overdrive and protective mode, engaging the stress response process. Immediately, the body releases the same hormones that enabled already the cave people to move and think faster, hit even harder, invoke better vision, and hear better than they could only a few seconds earlier.
Most modern stress, however, does not call for a fight or flight response. Todays experience of stress is generally related to how we respond to an actual stressful event, and not to the event itself.
It is not possible to live without any stress. Many daily tasks will confront us with stress. It probably starts with driving to work and facing traffic jam or road rage. Problems at work cause stress. A crowded supermarket with long lines waiting at the cash register can stress when all we really want is to get home.
What are the symptoms of stress?
Physical symptoms of stress can also be caused by other illnesses. So it is very important to consult doctor if symptoms do not disappear in a phase of relaxation. Common symptoms of stress are sleep problems, back, shoulder or neck pain, tension or migraine headaches, upset or acid stomach, constipation, diarrhea, hair loss, high blood pressure, and chest pain. You can probably tell right away that these symptoms could also come from other illnesses.
How to combat stress?
Learn to relax. Try some deep-breathing exercises during which you close your eyes, breathe deeply, and remove all other thoughts from your mind.
Exercise. Daily exercise not only helps to control your weight, it also works to reduce stress.
Eat right. By choosing the right food and by eating healthy you can easily reduce stress over time.

There are many options we have when we get stressed or overwhelmed or anxious. Most of them involve backing off in some way. But you can be sure that all backing off process lead to cancer. Breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, money cancer, love cancer.
Nature doesn’t listen to our complaints, so why should we? Nature says “evolve or die” this is really clear. It is the core inspiration of nature, evolve or die. So, stress shows that we are prepared to grow, to challenge the box we put ourselves in.
Many people shy away from stress claiming that it is a measure of their lack of consciousness. But no, they are self sabotaging. In a relationship, if you want stress free time, have an affair with someone who you don’t live with. Then you can have stress free time for a while. However, it doesn’t last.
The same stress over and over is like a dog biting you 20 times as you go through the gate, 20 times. It’s the most important witnessing. Is the same stress hampering your life, year after year. If so, it is like sitting in a cave meditating thinking you’re enlightened when really, you’re just hiding from reality.
So, stress is a gift. A real gift but only if you grow through it. To grow through stress means you evolve to a higher consciousness. That means, you do what stressed you before, without stress now.
Here’s an example: (it’s about time you say!) - Let’s pretend I speak for a living. I stand up in front of audiences and talk. I get paid for it, so, there’s an expectation from the audience that it’s entertaining. So, let’s just say that my self imposed stress limit is 20 people. I can almost do that and keep my underwear clean.
Now, I get a booking for 200 people. Just the thought of it makes me tremble. I can self sabotage, which most people do, “oh, I have a sore throat” or “gee, I’m busy” or I can face the music. Now, if I don’t evolve, I’m facing 200 people with the same head space I had with 20. I am totally stuffed. So, instead of that disaster, I seek help, and find a teacher or someone, or Zanax and do the talk.
If I did it with consciousness, guess what? I get a booking for 500. Damn, I thought it was over, I thought I was clever, but now I am dumb again. I have to go to a teacher again. But I can’t go to that same teacher. He/she was perfect to get me from 20 to 200 but they’re hopeless at 500 people audiences. So, not only do I face new stress, I face new learning’s, new teachers, new teachings.
Coming back to the real world now, which is sometimes very close to that fantasy world, getting new teachers and new learning’s all the time is a great treat but bloody expensive. My suggestion is to learn something that grows with you.
The laws of nature are just such a learning. They help you when you get a mosquito bite stress, and they help you when somebody dies. They help when you can’t choose the brand of toothpaste and they help you when you sell your billion dollar property portfolio. The laws of nature don’t answer questions, they teach you how. At each level of life they teach you how to deal with the stress.
Expanding your vision is a great antidote to stress too. When my vision is the size of an ant, then ants annoy me. When my vision is the size of my ego, all things in my ego annoy me. But if my vision is universal, damn, Pluto just went out of orbit. Small stuff just shoots by.
So, face stress head on, change the way you deal with life not change your life. Keep your vision expansive, grow your vision as fast as you grow your love. They are one in the same.
How do we grow from stress?
1. Take whatever is bad and find good in it. There’s order in the chaos.
2. See that nothing is missing just changes form. So the stress is already in your life in a different form and you dealt with it in another form quite well.
3. Stress can only exist at an ego level. Dig deeper within yourself and find your core. No stress there.
4. Worry about yourself causes stress. Worry about others causes no stress.
5. Deal with stress before it happens on three levels - Mind, body and Spirit. At the body level it is the nervous system that needs to evolve and yoga is one such process. At the mind level, the laws of nature put chaos into order, at the spirit level you find your inner peace, your core, your soul, try to preserve that connection at all times.
6. Remember that food, drugs, alcohol affect your nervous system.
7. Remember that the best answers exist when there’s no emotion.
