The first step to TOTAL SKIN WELLNESS is Maintenance, for the skin you “CAN” see
Cleanser - of course
Tonic - final rinse and first layer of age or problem specific treatment
Scrub - privides physical exfoliation by polishing the skin of dead surface cells
Moisturizer - hydrates the skin as well as protects against moisture loss. No matter what, ALL skin needs moisture
The next step to TOTAL SKIN WELLNESS is Repair, for the skin you “CAN’T” see
Repair products are designed to work on the deepest layers of your skin, therefore reducing the level of irritation and can be used by those with sensitive skin.
The goal is to loosen the glue that holds dead skin cells together.
This is where Microderm Abrasion comes in as the physical exfoliator that shaves the skin’s surface and removes cells at a deeper level.
Microderm Abrasion Facial Buffing Creme is formulated with Aluminum Oxide Cystals, (the same stuff used in clinical treatments) that are laser cut to be sharp, not jagged.
When skin cell turnover increases, your skin starts to look healthier and younger.
The final step to TOTAL SKIN WELLNESS is Prevention for the skin you “WILL” see.
Preventing damage is the key to long term skin care.
UV rays cause close to 90% of skin damage.
UVA - aging rays
UVB - burning rays

Our skin can become dry for various reasons. The sebum on the skin can get washed away very fast because of frequent washing of your skin. One of the reasons is that you might be using harsh detergents. The weather may also be playing a part. Dry air will suck the moisture away from our skin. Air conditioners and room heaters are well known to produce dry air and that is one dry skin cause.
When winter comes, the moist, warm weather will soon become dry, cold and harsh. It is a good time to look for a good remedy to combat the dry, chapped, chafed and itchy dry skin. Shielding lotion is now recommended by dermatologists as dry skin treatment. Here are some additional tips that may also help protect you against dry skin.
1. Use sun blocks lotion on sunny days. 15 SPF is usually strong enough, but if you are outdoors for a long time, you need more protection.
2. Although a long, hot bath or shower can feel very comfortable when you are indoors from the cold. However that hot water will cause dry skin just as easily in the winter as the summer. It’s also best to use as little soap as possible to avoid washing off protective natural oils.
3. As soon as you get out of the shower, pat dry (rubbing chafes the skin and the towel absorbs too much of the skin’s natural oil) and apply a shielding lotion immediately. It can keep the moisture locked in and protect yourself from both the dryness indoors and the harsh elements outdoors. Don’t forget about your hands and face.
4. If you’re going to be out in the cold for a long time, or you’re involved in outdoor sports, you need to prevent overheating and becoming too cold or wet - all of which will cause dry skin. The best way to accomplish all three is to dress in layers of clothes. Silk is best next to our skin. It is good insulation, is soft, lightweight, and allows the skin to breath. It also dries quickly so your skin doesn’t chafe from being continually wet. Avoid cotton, it retains moisture.
Wool is moist resistant, and retains its insulating qualities even when it is wet. However, it’s not very comfortable right next to the skin. Silk undergarments are readily available in sporting goods stores - pants, tops, and liners for gloves and socks.
5. Use a humidifier if possible. Integrating it into your central heating system is best, but if you have one that’s portable, using in the bedroom at night is most effective for preventing dry skin.
Just following the 5 tips above will help you withstand the winter unharmed, and without the cracked, chafed, itchy dry skin that is typical of the season.

Razor burn is a type of burning sensation you get especially after shaving, and is generally caused by the irritating effects of having all your skins natural moisture harshly removed by a sharp edge, leaving it dry, sensitive and inflamed. The practice of shaving is a very unnatural and high friction process that can produce unfavorable effects in your skin. At times razor burn can be very uncomfortable, and can cause evident bumps and rashes along the face and neck, or any other place you shave regularly. For centuries people have been using different methods to cure razor burn as it can be both ugly and painful.
In fact I have very thick facial hair, and shaving for me has at all times produced some really bad razor burn. I remember the first time I started to shave as a teenager; it was so awful it looked like horrible acne on some days. Luckily my older brother clued me in time about the wonderful world of shaving side effects, and started me on the road to investigating ways to cure razor burn. To cure razor burn, he recommended using one of any number of products designed to do just that. And indeed, there are several aftershave lotions that are meant to cure razor burn.
Frankly speaking, I found these products to do little other than make me smell spiffy. For a number of these products that are marketed as remedies for razor burn have alcohol in them, and many times make my face feel even drier and more inflamed than ever before. Ive had much better luck using products that arent intended to cure razor burn in order to cure razor burn.
Of all, my personal favorite way to cure razor burn is a lotion made by Vaseline, called Vaseline Intensive Care. Its not anything like their trademark petroleum jelly, and is marketed as a body lotion but I find that it works great as a way to remedy razor burn. No sooner I apply it, within ten minutes or so after shaving, I find I almost never experience razor burn symptoms. What’s more, Ive discovered that some Aloe Vera based gels or lotions can work great as a way to cure razor burn as well.
It helps to take care while you shave as well. One must not use force or apply too much pressure when you make your strokes, a good way is to try and remove the hair as lightly as possible. There can be some amount of razor burn which is unavoidable at times, so youll probably want to have a way to cure razor burn handy no matter how carefully you shave. While razor burn is in fact the same thing in both men and women, razor burn cures should work equally well for anyone. The difference between the product to cure razor burn for men or women probably only differs in the kind of perfumes that is used in it.

The term cellulite used in front of a woman often results in a response along the lines of disgust and dismay, as the appearance can be unsightly; people that suffer with this find it tends to affect them mainly from the waist down. Although additional fat is normal in women, this is not just a problem exclusive to overweight women; even sporting women who do not carry much additional fat can have this condition.
Fat beneath the surface of the skin pushes against connective tissue causing it to give that dimpled look commonly known as cellulite. It may still be some time before medical science arrives at a definitive reason for why some people are more prone to this than others but it may have something to do with how toxins are held in the cells of some people.
One thing is certain though and that is as a persons age increases, the amount of this fatty tissue increases in the same way that wrinkles also form which is probably due to the reduction of the two components that keep the skin looking young; collagen and elastin. It is normally classified as a problem caused by hormones and is why men rarely suffer with the condition as fat in their bodies is consistent throughout.
Often the cellulite goes unnoticed and it is only when a person’s muscles are compressed or the skin is pinched that it can be seen and felt but women should not feel depressed about the problem as most suffer with it to a greater or lesser degree. Many factors can influence the buildup; ranging from the sex of the person to their age, genetic make-up, skin type and skin thickness, all have a part to play in its formation.
Despite research, science has no answers to the definitive cause which means that any manufacturer can make claims but how to rid people of the condition including creams to make it disappear. A large number of cosmetic clinics are now offering a massage service which they say eliminates the cellulite but it in fact hides it by puffing up the skin in the areas affected.
Perhaps the most drastic therapy is liposuction where fat is literally sucked from the body or the more expensive procedure of injecting certain chemicals in a process called mesotherapy. These known remedies offer only temporary relief and are likewise not advisable as liposuction for example should only be used to remove deep fats and is not very effective in the removal of cellulite.
For people who are prone to the problem, there are no magic treatments for selective removal but there are now a number of creams on the market which are designed to help hide the effect it brings. Although no treatment can really help, adjustments to lifestyle habits seem to be a better option which means adopting a healthy diet, with regular physical activity and an overall reduction in weight.
If this is also followed by the adoption of drinking plenty of fresh water every day; unwanted toxins which can help in the formation of cellulite in the tissue are gradually removed.

The terms cellulite and liposuction go hand in hand. Liposuction is a surgical procedure by which fat cells located between the skin and the muscles are removed, thus improving the body’s contour.
How Does It Work?
The process involves the usage of a cannula (a small stainless steel tube). Fat is sucked out through this using a powerful vacuum pump. The cannula is embedded into the underlying body fat through little incisions, whereby the suction force creates many small tunnels in the fatty layers. On completion, the tunnels collapse and the body contour improves. This cosmetic procedure works best on young skin, as in older persons it can lead to more dimpling.
Cellulite reduction through liposuction shows best results on people who regularly exercise and are not obese. An individual with a taut and elastic skin with a few stubborn cellulite deposits will get better body contours as compared to someone with sagging skin. The person should not have any serious health problem such as high blood pressure or some cardiac trouble. Results will be even more satisfying if you keep realistic expectations from the surgery. Very obese people will not get satisfactory results from liposuction. It is important to understand that liposuction is definitely not a very good method for weight loss, but yes, it might give your body a better shape!
This surgical procedure definitely gives you the appearance of a major weight loss, but in all cases, the upper layer cellulite is not diminished by liposuction.
Some Possible Side-Effects
Cellulite might be tackled by liposuction to a certain extent, but one must not forget the dangers associated with the process. It is always advised to weigh the pros and cons before getting this surgery done. Do not get carried away by advice of friends and catchy advertisements.
- Infection is a very common side effect of any surgery, and the doctor might prescribe antibiotics. Better to keep the wounds clean. Swelling might also occur after liposuction.
- Embolism is a serious condition, where the loose fat enters the brain after traveling through ruptured blood vessels during the surgery. This requires immediate medical emergency treatment, as death might also occur.
- Paresthesia is a condition where there may be increased sensitivity or complete numbness in the area of surgery. This might turn out to be a permanent feature.
- Internal organs might get wounded, as it is not possible to see where the cannula gets inserted.
- Liposuction may also cause the skin above the cellulite deposit to get necrotic and slough off.
- The surgeon might inject some fluids during the process, resulting in fluid imbalance in the body. Excess fluid may get collected in the lungs or kidneys leading to a serious condition.
Where Can It Be Done On The Body?
Liposuction for cellulite removal is mostly performed on the buttocks, thighs, hips, abdomen, arms, calves, back and even the face. It can be done on more than one place at the same time, depending on the requirement.
This surgical procedure is usually performed by skilled plastic surgeons or dermatologists, although any licensed physician is also able to perform it.
Liposuction results vary from person to person. To avoid any kind of disappointment, it is best to keep realistic results in mind. Do not expect an hour-glass figure after the surgical procedure. Try to get maximum information about the process before the surgery, and then decide whether liposuction is right for you. Liposuction reduces cellulite, but does not give a drastic weight loss.

Historically, Bearberry has been one of the most successful treatments of urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and a host of other illnesses. Bearberry is a powerful tonic for the body, and its antiseptic properties are excellent for the skin as well. Bearberry is one of the many ingredients that are becoming more prominent in skin care products today. Cosmetic companies are seeing the need to create skin care products with natural ingredients to fight skin conditions and offer safer alternatives, especially for those with sensitive skin and allergies.
Common antiseptics like witch hazel are still widely used today to treat wounds, acne, and other skin conditions. Natural resources like herbs and berries were the only form of medicinal or cosmetic treatment available. Now, these natural enhancements are making way to today’s mainstream cosmetics. These cosmetics happen to be the most successful product lines available to combat a variety of skin conditions.
One of the little known secrets to bearberry is the hypopigmenting component. This component has a whitening effect on the skin, making bearberry perfect for those want to treat freckles, age spots, or vitiligo. Used alone, bearberry can dramatically change the tone and color of the skin. Because of the powerful whitening effects, bearberry is combined with other ingredients in cosmetics to have a subtle effect on the skin. This way, the bearberry will be mild enough to lighten problem areas without overbleaching. Used regularly, bearberry can remove the most stubborn pigmented areas of the skin.
Another benefit to the potent properties of Bearberry is the bacteriostatic action that works against Staphylococci, the staph responsible for the MRSA superbug. Any skin care product with Bearberry may also help the fight against the superbug, in addition to the other benefits for the skin.
Bearberry also increases the cell turnover rate and it is an excellent antioxidant. It works to fight free radicals, preventing additional skin conditions, and works as a natural sunscreen.
Too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer, and the first sign of skin cancer is the presence of melanoma, usually in the form of freckles, age spots, and moles. Bearberry can reverse the damage from the sun, and may very well play a role in the prevention of skin cancer.
Various studies have concluded the benefits and the risks of using sunscreen. Dermatologists only look at the skin, so they are going to recommend using a sunscreen. While sunscreen may block out the sun’s rays, it will also block out the needed Vitamin D component, the same component responsible for the prevention of breast and other cancers. It may seem like a catch 22, but keep in mind that natural ingredients like bearberry will let you have your cake and eat it too. With Bearberry, you can enjoy the sun, reverse the signs of sun damage, and protect against further damage of the sun.
Bearberry, like any other herb or medicinal remedy, is not allergy-free for everyone.

Only the best and most natural ingredients are used in developing handmade soaps to ensure benefits for you and your body.
Handmade soaps and toiletries also benefit the environment. For example using natural products that don’t contain any synthetic materials won’t clog or ruin pipes. Also, the remains that go through our pipes end up in our waters. So another great benefit of handmade soaps is that they don’t pollute as bad because there are no chemicals such as in the average detergent bars. We should all do our part to help out. Everyone should take an active interest in themselves as well as the environment.
There really is no comparison between the handmade products that are sold and the stuff that you buy at the neighborhood drugstore. The difference is huge. Treat your body and environment well and the rewards are priceless.
Check out the exciting world of handmade soaps and toiletries at the Little Soap Shop. Your skin will thank you!

Dandruff is the most common skin problem that affects modern society but finding the right treatment is not always easy.
There are many anti-dandruff products out there on the market but a large number contain industrial strength chemicals and thus can actually do you more harm, or at least will continue to aggravate the dandruff problem.
Take Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) for example. This is used to clean runways and as an engine degreaser, yet you’ll find it in the majority of shampoos and shower gels on the market today, particularly in products designed for a greasy scalp / greasy skin.
So, if it seems that today’s pharmaceutical companies are more interested in their bottom line than the health of your skin, don’t worry as there are many natural home remedies for dandruff, that have been used for centuries and by many different civilisations.
The first thing you can do to begin the elimination of your dandruff is to change your shampoo. As mentioned earlier, the chemical Sodium Laureth Sulfate can have a drying and stripping effect on your skin, and leave it open to yeast funguses such as Malessezia Globbosa and Pityrosporum Ovale which thrive on the scalp’s natural oils (sebum), and result in excessive flaking and dandruff.
Try using a shampoo that utilizes natural foaming agents instead of artificial ones. A natural foaming agent like Yucca will be far kinder on your scalp and can help you begin to remedy your dandruff problem.
Massaging the scalp twice a day can help to disperse dandruff and improve blood circulation.
Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for centuries as one of the best home remedies for dandruff. First wash your hair with a natural pH balanced shampoo. Mix some apple cider vinegar with warm water (2 parts vinegar to 1 part water). Adding a few drops of natural oils like Lavender or Rosemary will cleanse the scalp further and fragrance your hair. Pour or spray this mixture onto your scalp, massage in and leave to dry - no need to rinse out. For really stubborn dandruff, a stronger mixture can be made (try one-to-one ratio of vinegar to water). Lemon juice can also be used instead of apple cider vinegar. Note that raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar will give you the best results.
As mentioned, natural essentials oils are great for using in home remedies for dandruff. Lavender and Rosemary are fantastic as are Neem oil and Tea Tree oil, which has fantastic anti-bacterial properties. The neem oil will help fight off the yeast funguses that cause and aggravate dandruff. These oils are often highly concentrated so only small amounts are required - it is recommended that all be patch tested first in case of any allergy or hypersensitivity that may result from their use.
My website below contains more information on the use of these oils, and a video showing you how to create your own home remedies for dandruff.

Panthenol is a non-irriating form of Vitamin B that is usually derived from plants. When this natural, hydrating vitamin is applied externally, it penetrates into lower skin layers, gets absorbed into your skin cells and turns into pantothenic acid (commonly known as Vitamin B5). Because panthenol is absorbed deeply into the skin, it adds essential moisture and has a desirable plumping effect.
Panthenol, with its humectant-like properties, penetrates into layers beneath the surface of your skin so it can be used to treat a myriad of minor skin disorders and irritations. This natural substance is safe to use on your skin and can even be administered internally. In 1984, panthenol was included in the list of over the counter drugs published by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In 1987, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) concluded that panthenol was safe to use in cosmetics as a humectant, emollient and moisturizer.
Over the past twenty years, panthenol has been effectively used to treat sunburns, irritations, dryness and other minor skin disorders. This non-toxic vitamin has incredible absorption properties and helps to diminish wrinkles by infusing moisture into the deeper layers of your skin. In 1995, a study conducted by LH Leung also suggested panthenol as an alternative treatment for acne because it counteracts bacteria. Panthenol can be found in a variety of skin care products developed to treat dry, normal, combination and acne-prone skin.
Using panthenol in your skin will help to keep it smooth by helping to maintain its natural moisture balance and counteracting surface bacteria. Panthenol reduces inflammation, soothes irritation and initiates the rebuilding of your skin. The healing properties of this vitamin have also been proven to be beneficial for stronger hair and nails.
The regular use of moisturizers, toners, shampoos and conditioners that include panthenol naturally ensure a softer, more attractive appearance everyday.

Stretch marks, scientifically known as striae are a form of scarring on the skin. When the skin becomes pulled during rapid growth or stretching, stretch marks can occur. Although our skin is quite elastic, when it’s overstretched, the regular production of collagen (the major protein that makes up the connective tissue in your skin) is disturbed. At first these scars appear as having a unique texture from the surrounding skin and reddish or purplish in color. However fortunately, they almost totally disappear over time as they become lighter in color.
The human skin has three different layers: the epidermis (outer layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous stratum (innermost layer). Stretch marks occur in the dermis, which is the resilient middle layer that helps the skin retain its shape. Therefore no marks will form as long as there is support within the dermis.
Don’t worry. You’re not alone if you start noticing stretch marks on your body. Many women see them appear on breasts, thighs, hips, and buttocks. Over 50% of all females get them during pregnancy or witness their appearance during puberty. These deep-skinned scars often affect obese or overweight people.
They may also appear during rapid weight changes in bodybuilders. Stretch marks might also appear on a person who uses steroid-containing skin lotions or ointments (like hydrocortisone) for an extended period of time, or has to take strong doses of oral corticosteroids for several months or more. They occur more often in females but can easily affect males. So those that believe that only females get stretch marks are misinformed.
Here are some Helpful Tips to Make Stretch marks Fade:
A number of people may find that sunless tanning treatments (both over-the-counter lotions and sprays and in-salon types of treatments) can help cover up scars. But regular tanning and tanning beds won’t work because stretch marks don’t tan well.
On a similar note for those of you that love to take a dip in the pool, the good news is that current fashion actually favors many styles of bathing suits that can hide belly marks. This does wonders to hide those scars on the upper thighs and buttocks are the popular ‘boy style’ suits. High neck swimmers can hide marks in the chest area and are a popular choice with many swimmers meaning there is lots to choose from.
Furthermore there are lots of lotions and other skin products on sale that can help to prevent stretch marks. You will also benefit from seeking the help of a dermatologist, who specializes in skin problems. These skin specialists may use anything from microdermabrasion which is an actual surgery technique or laser treatment, which minimizes the appearance of stretch marks. Actions similar to these however are costly and aren’t usually prescribed for people in their teen years because they are still growing and their striae will probably fade over time anyway
Treating stretch marks using an all natural cream is a wise steps towards fading this common skin condition. Other skin conditions such as cellulite
