Born on September 25, 1985 in Tyrone, Georgia, Calvin Johnson has grown into one of the best college football wide receivers of all time. His rare combination of speed, size, strength, and athletic ability make him difficult to guard no matter who is lining up opposite him. Johnson stands 6 foot 5 inches tall, and weighs close to 240 pounds. To go along with this he has 4.3 speed, and a vertical leap of more than 47 inches!
Johnson started his football career at Sandy Creek High School. As a senior he put up average numbers, but not anything that would blow you away. During his senior season Johnson pulled in 40 balls totaling 736 yards. He added a modest eight touchdowns on top of this. His career high school numbers were 80 catches for 1,479 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Despite not having the best stats among high school receivers, college coaches came from all over to see what Johnson had to offer. Of course, the main reason for this was his huge upside potential. During his senior year he was pegged as one of the top 10 players in the entire country, as well as one of the best in the state of Georgia. This led to a highly contested recruiting war which was eventually won by the Georgia Institute of Technology, or Georgia Tech as it is also known.
During his time at Georgia Tech Johnson made a name for himself. In fact, many people believe he is the best receiver to ever play at the school; and that is saying a lot considering the players who have come before him. In three seasons as a wide receiver at Georgia Tech, Johnson totaled 2,927 yards on 178 receptions. He also contributed 28 touchdowns.
After losing to the West Virginia University Mountaineers in the 2007 Toyota Gator Bowl, Johnson declared himself eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Grief and grieving is inevitable because we choose to love. And it can be argued that it lingers on and on because we refuse to learn to love in separation and complete a primary task: acceptance of the loss and the many changes demanded.
However, there are a number of old beliefs that we have learned about grief from the authority figures in our lives that have a major impact on the length of time we grieve and the amount of unnecessary suffering we endure. For example, some people believe you must grieve for a year, grieve for the most part in silence after a couple of weeks, and eventually find closure (often interpreted as meaning forget about the deceased) and get on with your life.
Still there are several things in addition to questionable beliefs that tend to prolong and exacerbate the grief process that you can immediately change.
1. You grieve without a goal. Make a full commitment that you will accept the death of your loved one and reinvest in life. Ask yourself the most important question about your grief: Do I want to be loss oriented in my life or restoration oriented? Without the inner commitment to healand the actions to back it upeach day will prove to be filled with pain and aimlessly long.
2. You are expecting to be your old self again. Yet you are different. We are all different when someone we love dies because a part of us that related to the loved one in the physical world has also died. We will grow from having known the deceased and build on what we were given, or we will regress and try to live in the past.
3. You are not aware that you are starting a new life. You may have to take on new roles and develop new skills. Your routines will change; some you will retain. Few of us like the new. We like the expected, the security of old routines, many of which have to be given up.
4. You dont realize its okay to establish a new relationship with the deceased. Our loved ones die but relationships and love live on. There is nothing wrong with talking to or writing to the loved one that died to express your feelings at various times. Though physically gone, depending on your belief system, you can still speak to his/her spirit.
5. You have not found someone you trust to talk to about how you really feel. It is not unusual to have a confidant early in your grieving and months later feel you cant say what youre feeling to that person. You may believe you should be over it or sense that your friends feel that way. But each grief is one of a kind. You may need more time and someone to talk to.
Although the above five concepts may be behind your extended grieving, keep in mind that grief has no specific time boundaries. Its length varies with the individual. You will know when grief is lessening in your life. But one final awareness to consider: It is normal for grief to revisit. Something you see or hear can bring up a sad memory, even tears, or the wish that the loved one was with you. Perfectly normal. Allow the gift of grief to run its course at that moment.

Normal Grief - The Grieving Process Grief is a normal process that happens to all us during our lifetime. As we go through life, we go through many types of grief that are inevitable. It is unreal to think that we cannot suffer any loss in our lives. Being prepared for it is the hardest part.Grief is the response to any type of loss common to man. Most of the unrecognized situations ... Anticipating Grief Anticipating grief is never an easy thing. The thought that our loved one is going to die is not a consoling fact. Anticipatory grief is period during which a patient or family member expects to die. Anticipatory grief is quite similar to the after effects of losing a loved one. The emotions are no less different than when one experiences a tragic ... Understanding Grief When we cry for a loved one that has died, either we cry for ourselves or we cry for humanity, never for our loved one. Many will not agree with this, but it is true. I apologize for being a little bit in your face here, but yes, without a doubt. When left to its own devices, the stress that you have continued to ignore or push off will become chronic and you could develop acute stress disorder. Chronic stress could cause deep-seated physiological and psychological imbalances. It is no secret that stress is the reason behind several ailments such as heart disease, high blood pressure, persistent headaches, migraines, kidney disease, hormonal imbalances, tumors and in extreme cases can lead to cancer. Now these are only some of the more common physiological manifestations of stress. I will address the psychological impact of stress in a forthcoming article.
Before I do any deeper in this article, let’s clarify a confusion that most people have. Stress is the cause and there is no remedy for stress - I can repeat this as many times as you want. Go ahead and read this a few times. When you are seeking cure for stress you won’t find any self-respecting professional prescribe you anything. What you will be prescribed or suggested however are treatments for the symptoms of stress - such as the physiological and psychological manifestations of stress.
Confused? Ok, just don’t get stressed out, please. I’ll explain.
What is Stress?
It is human nature to have an answer to every question, an explanation for every phenomenon, remedy for every pain and a solution to every problem. We are born with this natural inclination to figure things out all by ourselves -that is the core essence of our rationality. However, when we are up against a challenging situation that we cannot satisfy ourselves with a suitable outcome our conscious mind is subjected to stress. With every passing moment that we cannot resolve the problem, them conscious mind continues to dwell on it and gets frustrated, thereby causing stress.
A simple example is when you are watching a suspense thriller. During scenes of suspense, the video and audio generates excitement in you. Your conscious mind is trying to figure out what will happen next, while what you are seeing and hearing is not feeding that desire fast enough. As a result, believe it or not, you are subjected to stress.
It causes your brain to sense an abnormality around you as reported by your senses of sight and hearing. As a result it directs the adrenal glands to generate adrenaline and cortisols in your blood stream. Long story short, adrenaline and cortisols are hormones that collectively increase your heart rate, dilate your blood vessels and increase your respiratory rate in an effort to suck in more oxygen into your body. The purpose is to provide more oxygen to your cells so that they can have the fuel to produce enough energy to mitigate the abnormality by doing something different.
Essentially the brain is asking you to remove the stimulus that caused that hyperactivity in your body. When the suspense-laden scene is over in the movie, you automatically calm down without you consciously knowing about it. This happens because your senses of sight and hearing notify the brain that the stimulus for the stress has been removed. Consequently, your heart rate returns to normal, your breathing slows down, blood pressure returns to normal and you are in a stable state of healthNow don’t think that adrenaline and cortisol are bad. They are the natural response generators of your body and can actually save your life. If you are in a dangerous situation - for example if you are about to be mugged in new town that you are visiting, adrenaline and cortisols help you get that extra energy to either fight off the mugger or simply run away to safety. Once you are in a safe situation, the levels of these hormones subside in your blood stream and your body regains that steady state of internal and external activity.
Perils of Chronic Stress
However, what happens if that stimulus is always present in your life? You remain in a constant state of hyperactivity. Your internal organs are in an overdrive condition, as a result of which they start to wear out. That is when you develop a disease in one or more of your internal organs, starting with your heart and spreading elsewhere. As you can understand, this is the result of too much adrenaline and cortisols in your blood stream, which is keeping everything working in full steam. You develop what is a called a chronic stress condition and have acute stress disorder.
So what is the secret to good health? Well, that’s a loaded question. However it has been proven over the centuries that if you can remove the stimuli in life that subjects you to stress, you will have better health. You will always have stress in life - there is no escape. But how you deal with stress and prevent stress from taking your physiological and psychological being into a hyperactive state, determines how healthy you will remain in life.

A native of Boulder, Colorado, Matthew Michael Hasselbeck was born on September 25, 1975. He currently plays the position of quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks after initially being drafted by the Packers during the 1998 NFL Draft.
After attending Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts, Matt Hasselbeck entered Boston College. Immediately after, he was drafted in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft and began his professional football career in 1999 as backup for Brett Favre. The Packers later traded him and, in 2001, Matt Hasselbeck signed on with the Seattle Seahawks.
It would appear that the Seahawks made a good decision in selecting Hasselbeck, who became the teams all-time, highest-rated passer in 2003. In addition, he is currently ranked ninth in the NFLs all-time passer ratings. In 2005, Matt Hasselbecks performance was regarded as one of the best in the NFL as he led the Seahawks to their third consecutive playoff appearance while boasting the highest passer rating in the NFC.
In January 2006, Matt Hasselbeck lead his team all the way to the SuperBowl XL and, even though his team was not victorious, this appearance marked the first for the Seahawks. With so many accomplishments, its no surprise that Matt Hasselbecks family would be filled with pride. He is the son of Don Hasselbeck, who is the former tight end for the New England Patriots and a brother to Tim Hasselbeck, who is the current backup quarterback for the New York Giants. His sister-in-law, Elisabeth, is best known as a co-host on daytime talk televisions The View and she is also a former Survivor contestant. Reportedly in favor of being called Matthew, Hasselbeck finds that most do not abide by his wishes and usually refer to him as Matt instead.

For most people, the word abuse implies violent and
malicious behavior. In fact, most mistreatment does NOT
fall into that category.
ALL MISTREATMENT LEAVES EMOTIONAL SCARS
There are several basic types of mistreatment, but one thing
that all types of mistreatment have in common is that they
all cause great mental suffering.
Its important to realize that this damage occurs even if the
abuse is committed out of ignorance or exhaustion or any
other mitigating factors.
Children have no way of discerning between intentional or
unintentional harm. To them, it all hurts just the same.
PHYSICAL MISTREATMENT AND NEGLECT
Physical abuse includes any kind of corporal punishment:
hitting, pushing, slapping, burning, biting, and even
yanking. You often see parents yanking their children by
the arm as if they were dragging something by a leash.
These behaviors may or may not leave physical scars, but the
emotional scars always remain.
There is also neglect, which is a deprivation of basic
necessities: food, clothing, shelter, medical attention or
adequate supervision.
Leaving children alone who are too young to be in charge of
themselves and their own safety is not only dangerous. It
is cruel.
The child might assure the parents that its okay with him
because he senses that thats what his parents want. In
reality, the child may be terrified of staying alone and
even more afraid to say so.
WITNESSING PHYSICAL ABUSE IS EQUALLY ABUSIVE
Most people do not recognize that just witnessing physical
abuse is also horrifying and extremely damaging. If the
parents beat up on each other and the kid is forced to watch
or hear or even witness the aftermath, no one gets out of
that scenario unscathed.
SEXUAL ABUSE IS NOT CONFINED TO INTERCOURSE
Sexual abuse occurs when a child is forced, tricked, or
threatened to engage in any kind of sexual behavior. It is
not limited to penetration or fellatio or fondling. It includes
even watching or listening to any kind of sexual activity.
Most people do not realize that sexual violation also occurs
when there is a distortion of boundaries:
Grown-ups walking in on kids without regard for their
intimate space
Grown-ups being too seductively clad or unclad
Ogling the child in a state of undress
Making sexual observations about someones body
These are all inappropriate behaviors and they leave the
child feeling very confused and uneasy. They might not
understand why they feel bad, but it becomes a great source
of discomfort from there on out.
EMOTIONAL ABUSE IS DIFFICULT TO DETECT
The most difficult type of abuse to identify is emotional or
psychological in nature. It is very subtle and difficult to
recognize because so much of it is a non-behavior, such as
giving someone the cold shoulder or the silent treatment, or
simply not being present.
The fact that a parent may be doing something legitimate
like working and not just hanging out in some bar does
nothing to alter the fact that the child is deprived of his
parents company, guidance and affection.
A parent can be physically present but emotionally
unavailable. Some parents may have too many
responsibilities and not enough time or energy for their
children. Others are simply ill-equipped to offer proper
nurturance or psychological support. The term emotional
orphan comes to mind.
Another thing that makes emotional abuse hard to pinpoint is
the fact that the victim is not outwardly mangled.
Emotionally abusive behaviors include:
yelling
belittling, criticizing
blocking, stifling
too demanding of perfection
domineering, controlling
name-calling, ridiculing, mocking
not taking interest, ignoring
not showing affection or physical contact
constant complaining about providing necessities
general absence or unavailability.
Threats of abandonment or withdrawal of love are very
frightening and a very cruel form of discipline.
Other forms of psychological abuse are over-protection,
adulation and overly doting behaviors. And then there is
over-reliance on a child, referred to as emotional incest,
where the child is used to fulfill a void left by an absent
partner.
All of these behaviors distort healthy development and
growth. Muddled boundaries make it difficult to form and
sustain healthy human relationships later in life.
Now, using these parameters, its safe to say that the vast
majority of people have been abused to one degree or
another. Unfortunately, these types of behavior are far too
common and many of us have been affected more deeply
than we care to admit.
However, until we acknowledge the truth of our personal
history, we will continue to expend tremendous amounts of
psychic energy trying to squelch the pain of these
subconscious wounds.
In the meantime, it is my hope that a greater understanding
of how much long-term damage these behaviors cause might
prevent us from perpetuating such mistreatment. With a bit
of attention and intention, the abuse can stop here.

So, youre thinking about starting a business, but what do you call it? There are a lot of options and theories out there as to what makes a good name. Now, Im not an expert on naming so Im just providing some food for thought.
When naming your business, think about who the consumer of your product or service is going to be. Think about what your product or service is and how the consumer is going to use it. This is what many in marketing call the felt need that is the need of your consumer and how your product or service meets that need. Incorporating your felt need into the name of the business might be of great benefit. Lets take coffee for example. Its a hot, no pun intended, item. There are tons of coffee shops and services opening up every where. Now, these arent the best examples, but it might be appropriate to name a coffee business Java Jolt, Coffeine or Warm & Cozy. The first two line up the product with the need of being woken up. The third evokes yet another feeling of comfort.
So, why did Starbucks make it so huge? Well, it wasnt solely in their name. They are an excellent example of a brand and providing an experience that was carefully constructed to resonate with the customer. Ill do a post or two on branding later. But the Starbucks name fit well with the brand they created. Its a more upscale sounding name which struck a cord with their target consumer. Now Starbucks has become the definition of coffee for a lot of people. People now say I want a Starbucks not I want a coffee. I could go on and on about Starbucks. I love this brand and their coffee.
Other schools of thought on naming a business are built upon name recognition/reputation and stature. When I speak of recognition/reputation Im talking about those people that may use a family name or their last name for a business. Ford for example put his stamp on his cars with his name. Another would be our law firm which uses the last names of four people who created the business. These people were likely prominent lawyers already with good reputations and it made sense to name their firm as such. When I say stature, this again goes back to the type of consumer you want to do business with or the feeling you are trying to convey to your potential customers. For example, the name Elite Accounting doesnt necessarily portray that you will only do business with uppity people. It may mean that you consider yourself the best at what you do. On the other hand, it may also mean that because you are calling yourself Elite that not only are you the best at what you do, but that you offer a high level of service and therefore you may cost more that Budget Accounting place down the street.
When we chose the name JustBummin.com, we thought about the products we are working withmovies, video games, music and books. We also thought about the demographic that is most likely to use our end product. Being that these four entertainment choices are leisure activities and our audience will likely skew younger, it will hopefully resonate with a lot of people. Part of our goal was to also develop a name that was fun, could be remembered easily and that offered many opportunities.
These are just some ideas that may help get your juices flowing. For some, a name isn’t real important to their business model, but for others, especially if your name will be your brand it is of vital importance. Think long and hard about whether or not your business name needs to reflect you, your business in terms of service and/or product, and whether or not is an important part of your brand. If it is, your prospective customers need to easily identify with it.

A college friend of mine moved from Nebraska to Mississippi. While working at the local Pizza Hut in her new town, she was her usual lively self, greeting the customers with, “Hi guys, what are you ordering today?” She was perplexed that people seemed to be offended but she did not know why. Until one lovely lady replied to her usual cheerful greeting with:”We’re not guys! We are women!”. She soon learned the proper way to greet people was “Folks” not guys. And that you always say, “Ya’ll come back now!” when they leave.
According to the Webster dictionary, culture shock is:
“a sense of confusion and uncertainty sometimes with feelings of anxiety that may affect people exposed to an alien culture or environment without adequate preparation.”
The key here is “adequate preparation.”
Here are some tips for preparing for culture shock:
1. Do your homework. Be prepared. Learn about the culture, how they do things, how they like things, what clothes do they wear, etc. Ok, what about the clothes? Even in the U.S., tastes in clothes are not the same everywhere. What they would usually wear in Miami might look out of place or even inappropriate in Kalona, Iowa.
2. Talk to people who have been there. Or even someone who had been in the general area. Find out what the most recent local news was. An out-of-town speaker at a local conference made a joke about tornados in Kansas when she started her speech. She was greeted in silence. She was not aware of the fact that a tornado did actually hit a town in the area and had killed a relative of someone in the audience. In a small town where everybody knows everyone, they felt like one big family.
3. Leave your assumptions behind. Be open and ready to learn new ways of doing. Don’t assume that just because it was ok to stop people on the streets and talk to them, that in this new place it is alright as well. Observe first and watch how the locals interact before you resort to your usual lively self.
4. Expect culture shock to happen. Just because you were all ecstatic upon arrival, the worst is yet to come. Know that after the initial euphoria, that the anxiety and uncertainty will set in. You could start feeling irritable, having second thoughts about moving to this new place, feeling bored to death, and even start hating anything local. Acknowledge that these symptoms mean that you need to start to engage in your own self-development.
5. Find some support networks. Find a friend you can confide in. Take time to meet go out and meet new people. If you are so new that do not have friends from work or school yet, go to a church and find one where you feel welcomed and comfortable. You do not need to change your religion, but you need to have contact with real people who are interested in you.
Talk to people at the grocery store, or wherever you go. You might find someone that has connections to your old hometown.
6. Remain physically active. The worst thing to do is lock yourself in your room and staying in bed. Take a walk to the library. Visit a park. Go to a fitness center. You would find how invigorating it could be.
7. Be intellectually curious. Learn about the town, its history. Visit the local museums and important landmarks and public gatherings. Ask questions, be genuinely interested in what you see.
8. Be patient. Give yourself time to get over it. Take a look at the benefits of your experience in this new culture. Be aware that if the symptoms get worse, if you continually have feelings of despair and loneliness, that it is best to seek professional help. But most of the time, culture shock can be managed, if one is adequately prepared to tackle the challenges.
Being uninformed and making assumptions can get one in trouble. As you can see from the above examples, you can lose friends, and even lose tips because of being unprepared. If you are leaving for an extended stay overseas, you might want to invest in cultural training before you leave.
Ya’ll come back now!

Several years ago I was sitting in the office of a very successful businessman. He was the CEO of the company. He had finished interviewing me for a sales managers position.
As we approached the end of the interview he turned to me and told me that he was very impressed with me …so far. He then paused dramatically and said,
“Show me that you know how to sell….SELL ME THIS PENCIL.”
The next ten seconds seemed like an eternity to me. I had been selling for many years. However, this really put me on the spot.
“SELL YOU A PENCIL?” I thought. “I don’t know a thing about PENCILS!”
It became evident that the entire interview was a mere formality to this exercise.
If I passed this test I would get the job. If I flubbed this, I wouldn’t.
However in my panic there was a still small voice which relaxed me entirely and told me that I could easily do this.
Do you want to take a guess as to what I did?
Before I tell you what I did, let me tell you what I did not do.
The majority of salespeople are talkers. The public wrongfully believes that to be a great salesperson you need to talk, talk, talk. We have all been in situations where a sales person would go on and on ad naseum about something.
I can very quickly tell how experienced a sales person is by how much they talk.
Many sales trainers even emphasize this method of selling The number one complaint among customers is that salespeople “talk way too much!” The flip side of talking too much is that the salesperson is not listening to the customer.
On the other hand, great salespeople are great listeners.
What makes a great salesperson great is that they have learned to ask the questions that allow you to find out more about the customers wants and needs and then get the sale.
This is the CENTER of salesmanship.
If you look at the greatest salespeople of all time they are the ones who ASK the best questions.
I have learned in my many years of selling that I can sell anything, with very limited product knowledge, if I learn to ask the right questions.
A great example of this is Socrates, the Greek Philosopher.
If you study Philosophy you will notice that all of Socrates work is called “the Dialogues.”
Socrates asked his pupils questions about life. He was not only seeking truth he was engaging the listener.
Isn’t it true that your favorite teachers in school were the ones that engaged you in the educational process.
Chances are the reason they were so good and stand out in your mind is that they understood the power of questions.
The only way you can really engage the customer is if you ask questions.
Good selling is all about exercising good control on the customer and prove to them that you are genuinely interested in them. The only way you can accomplish these objectives is to ask the customer question that demonstrate that you really care about them.
You might imagine that with this type of insight, you too could sell anything to anybody.
I smiled brightly.
Looked the CEO square in the eye.
Paused.
Held the pencil up in the air and asked,
“So tell me about the type of pencils that you normally use here in your company?”
The CEO smiled back.
He knew that that by asking the question that I demonstrated that I was a professional salesperson.
Lesson Learned. God built you with two ears and only one mouth.
Ask.
Then listen.
Demonstrate to the customer that you genuinely care.
What does this have to do with marketing on the web?
Everything!
People want solutions, genuine relationships and feelings of goodwill.
Genuinely create that and you will have a business.
Ignore it and you will be chasing income.
